IPTV EPG not working? How to fix a missing TV guide

Updated September 2026·5 min read·By the VOLTIX team

The EPG, the on-screen TV guide, is one of the best things about IPTV, so it's annoying when it's blank or shows the wrong programmes. The good news: it's almost always a quick player setting, not a fault with the service. In most cases a manual EPG refresh, or fixing the time offset, sorts it. Here's how, in order.

Quick win: if the guide is simply empty, force an EPG refresh in your player and wait a minute. If it's present but the times are off, that's the time-zone offset, jump to that fix.

What the EPG is

EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide, the "now and next" schedule for each channel. Your player downloads it separately from the video, so a blank guide almost never means your channels are broken, it just means the guide data hasn't loaded or is pointed at the wrong place. With a Xtream Codes login the guide usually loads automatically.

Fix 1: the guide is empty or missing

  1. Give it a minute. On first setup the EPG can take a short while to download, especially large guides.
  2. Force an EPG refresh. In the player open Settings → EPG → Update / Refresh EPG. TiviMate, IPTV Smarters and OTT Navigator all have this.
  3. Use the Xtream login, not just M3U. A plain M3U often has no guide attached; the Xtream Codes login pulls the EPG automatically. Re-add your account with Xtream if you're on M3U.
  4. Restart the app. Some players only fetch the guide on launch.

Fix 2: the guide shows the wrong times

If the programmes are right but shifted by a few hours, the time offset is wrong, the guide is in a different time zone to yours. In the player's EPG settings, set the time offset / time shift to match your local time zone (some players call it "EPG time offset" and take a value like +1 or -5). Save and the guide snaps into line.

Fix 3: only some channels have a guide

If most channels show a guide but a few don't, it's a channel-mapping gap, those channels' IDs didn't match a guide entry. Options:

  • In players like TiviMate you can manually match a channel to the correct guide entry (long-press the channel → EPG source / match).
  • Refresh the EPG once more, mappings sometimes fill in on the next update.
  • It's normal for a handful of niche channels to have limited guide data, that's a source quirk, not a fault.

VOLTIX provides an integrated guide over the Xtream Codes login, so for most people the EPG "just works" once the account is added. Still stuck? Contact support and we'll check it.

FAQ

What is an EPG?
EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide, the on-screen schedule that shows what is on now and next for each channel. With a Xtream Codes login it usually loads automatically.
Why is my IPTV EPG not showing?
Usually the guide just needs time to download or a manual refresh, or the player is set to a different EPG source. Force an EPG update in the player settings and give it a minute.
Why is my TV guide showing the wrong times?
The programmes are correct but shifted, which means the time offset (time zone) in the player is wrong. Set the EPG time offset in the player to match your local time zone.
How do I refresh the EPG?
In most players open Settings, then EPG, and choose Update or Refresh EPG. Some players refresh on restart. After refreshing, wait a minute for the guide to populate.
