How to set up IPTV on a MAG box or STB Emulator
On this page
What you'll need Portal + MAC setup Live TV, movies, series + guide StbEmu (Android / Fire TV) Troubleshooting FAQMAG boxes and the STB Emulator app use a Stalker (Ministra) portal, the simplest login in IPTV: there is no playlist to paste and almost nothing to type. You enter a portal URL once, your box is recognised by its MAC address, and your live TV, movies and series appear. VOLTIX supports the Stalker portal natively, so any Linux MAG box (250/254, 322/324, 420/424, 520/522/524, 540/544) or StbEmu profile connects in a couple of minutes.
In a hurry? Start a free 24-hour VOLTIX trial (no card), activate your box's MAC in your control panel, and follow the four steps below.
What you'll need
- A Linux MAG box (250/254, 322/324, 420/424, 520/522/524, 540/544) or the StbEmu app on an Android box, Android TV or a Fire OS Firestick
- Your device's MAC address (looks like
00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX) - An active VOLTIX subscription and access to your control panel (its address and your sign-in are in your welcome email)
- A stable connection, at least 25 Mbps for 4K
Portal + MAC setup, step by step
Step 1: Find your MAC address
On a MAG box, read the MAC address on the sticker under the box, or press SETUP and open System settings → Device info. In StbEmu, open the profile's STB configuration → MAC address (you can also set your own; it should start with 00:1A:79). Write it down exactly, including the colons.
Step 2: Activate the MAC in your control panel
Sign in to your control panel (its address and your sign-in are in your welcome email), open Get connected → MAG box / STB Emulator, type your MAC and press Activate this box. This links the box to your subscription. A MAC that has not been activated is the number-one reason a portal will not connect.
Step 3: Enter the VOLTIX portal URL on the box
On the box press SETUP and open System settings → Servers → Portals. Give Portal 1 name any name, and in Portal 1 URL type the portal URL shown in your control panel exactly (press KB for the on-screen keyboard), then save. Go back to System settings and choose Restart portal (or Reboot device).
Step 4: Load your channels
After the restart the box connects by portal URL and MAC and opens on Live TV, our own VOLTIX channels first. Nothing else to type. On a MAG540 or MAG544, if the portal refuses the box, set Compatible model to MAG420, MAG322 or MAG254 in the portal settings.
Because VOLTIX restreams every channel through its own servers with a generous buffer, a MAG box that used to freeze mid-match on a raw provider line stays steady on VOLTIX.
Live TV, movies, series and the TV guide
Your MAG box or StbEmu gets everything in your subscription, not only live TV. Three tabs sit at the top of the screen, and the line at the bottom of the screen always shows which keys do what.
- Live TV (RED key): every channel by category, our own VOLTIX channels first. OK plays a channel.
- Movies (GREEN key): the full movie library by category. OK plays a film, OK again pauses or continues, LEFT / RIGHT jump 30 seconds back or forward, BACK stops it and returns to the list.
- Series (BLUE key): OK on a series shows its episodes, OK on an episode plays it, BACK returns to the series.
- TV guide (EPG key): in the channel list or while you watch, EPG shows the channel's next programmes, the one on now marked, with its description. LEFT / RIGHT moves to another channel, OK watches it.
- Favorites (YELLOW key): adds or removes the selected channel. Your favorites get their own category near the top of Live TV, and they are the same favorites you keep in your control panel.
No colour keys on your remote? Press UP at the top of the category list to reach the tabs, then LEFT / RIGHT to switch between Live TV, Movies and Series.
StbEmu on Android or Fire TV
No MAG box? StbEmu (the STB Emulator app) turns an Android box, an Android TV or a Fire OS Firestick into a virtual MAG box:
- Install StbEmu (Pro) (a small one-time price, no ads) or StbEmu (Free) (with ads) from Google Play. On a Fire OS Firestick it isn't in the Amazon Appstore: install it with the Downloader app, as in our Firestick guide (on the newest Vega OS sticks, use MaxPlayer from the Amazon Appstore instead).
- Open the menu (double-tap the screen, or long-press OK on a remote), go to Settings → Profiles, open the profile and set Portal settings → Portal URL to the portal URL shown in your control panel.
- Note the profile's STB configuration → MAC address and activate it in your control panel (Step 2 above).
- Reload the portal from the app menu (or close and reopen the app). Live TV, movies and series load like on a hardware MAG box.
- In StbEmu, press UP at the top of the category list to reach the Live TV / Movies / Series tabs (this works with any remote). With a keyboard, F1 to F4 are the RED / GREEN / YELLOW / BLUE keys and F8 opens the TV guide.
Troubleshooting
- "Page Loading Error" / stuck on loading. Check the network, re-check the portal URL character by character, and confirm the MAC is activated in your control panel.
- "Your STB is blocked" (in StbEmu: an authentication error). The MAC is not linked to an active subscription yet. Activate it in your control panel, then restart the portal.
- No channels after connecting. Restart the portal or reboot the box. In StbEmu reload the portal; if errors repeat, turn off Settings → Common settings → Enable network cache.
- Buffering. Use ethernet where you can; 4K needs ~25 Mbps. VOLTIX's restreaming removes the most common provider-side cause.
- A 4K film is slow to start. 4K films are large files: in StbEmu one can take up to about 20 seconds before the picture appears. Wait for it instead of pressing OK again.
